Anthropic has announced that it is donating the Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation, which sits under the Linux Foundation. The move gives the standard a home outside one AI company.

What changed

According to Anthropic, the donation includes the Agent Skills name and logo, its GitHub organisation and the agentskills.io domain. The company says people can keep using and contributing to the standard without joining the foundation.

A skill packages instructions and supporting material for an AI agent. Anthropic describes the basic format as a folder containing a SKILL.md file, with optional scripts and references. Its announcement says more than 70 agent platforms have integrated the standard.

Why it matters

The practical question is whether useful workflows can travel between tools rather than being rebuilt for each one. A shared format can help, although compatibility still depends on what each tool supports.

QueryFun takeaway

If you use agent skills, review what they instruct the agent to do and which files or services they access. A shared format is useful, but it does not make every third-party skill trustworthy.
